Системные обзоры и мета-анализ исследований касательно преимуществ и рисков потребления пищевого белка взрослыми для здоровья костей приводят к выводу, что прием белка выше рекомендованных суточных норм может способствовать снижению потерь костной массы и рисков перелома шейки бедра, при условии приема адекватного количества кальция.

Несколько системных обзоров рассматривают влияние приема белка на здоровье костей у взрослых. Этот обзор литературы подводит итоги недавних систематических обзоров и мета-анализа и освещает их ключевые посылы. Достаточный уровень потребления пищевого белка необходим для оптимального роста костей и поддержания их здоровья.

Колебания уровня приема белка в рамках «нормального» приводит к изменениям костной массы на 2-4% у взрослых. У пожилых людей с остеопорозом, более высокий уровень приема белка (≥ 0.8 г/кг веса тела / в день, то есть выше современных рекомендованных норм) ассоциируется с более высокой костной плотностью, меньшей скоростью потерь костной массы и более низким риском перелома шейки бедра, при условии приема достаточного количества кальция.

Подключение дополнительного приема белка в виде пищевых добавок ослабляет возрастное снижение костной массы и снижает уровень маркеров костного ремоделирования, параллельно с увеличением инсулиноподобного фактора роста 1 и снижения уровня паратиреоидного гормона. Нет никаких доказательств, что кислотная нагрузка от питания является вредоносной для здоровья костей. Таким образом, недостаточное потребление белка пожилыми людьми может быть более серьезной проблемой, чем избыток белка в их питании. Необходимы долгосрочные качественные перекрестные испытания, чтобы глубже исследовать влияние пищевого белка на риск переломов.
